The challenge
Politicians are never more qualified to make personal decisions about pregnancy and abortion than patients. But after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe in 2022, Arizonans were living under a dangerous abortion ban with no protections for victims of rape or incest and devastating consequences for women and their families.
The work
A citizen-powered movement in Arizona collected a record number of signatures to put Proposition 139: Arizona for Abortion Access on the ballot and establish a fundamental right to abortion in the state. Be Clear was brought in for the final stretch of this campaign to create a unifying earned media strategy.
We took a storytelling approach to this campaign, amplifying a broad range of voices across a variety of platforms. We wanted voters in every corner of this state to know this was a movement supported by doctors, nurses, faith leaders, environmental advocacy organizations, women and men from different backgrounds, and trusted community partners all working together to end Arizona’s abortion ban.
“The stakes of this campaign were incredibly high. Be Clear met the moment, uniting a large and diverse group of coalition partners around one message and one goal so we could end Arizona’s abortion ban.
“Be Clear not only brought communications savvy to the table, they brought invaluable campaign strategy — plus kindness, empathy, and humor at all the right moments.”

“The results of our presidential election make the passage of Proposition 139 feel more consequential than ever for the people of Arizona.
We need every protection we can get to safeguard our reproductive freedoms.
We aren’t done fighting, or sharing our stories, or organizing for a better future.”

Why Chrissy Teigen Spent Her Weekend Campaigning For Abortion in Arizona
The results
On election night, Arizona voters delivered a resounding win for abortion rights, with more than 62% of voters approving Proposition 139.
Our team:
Developed and led more than a dozen message trainings for coalition and community members
Created a campaign communications calendar and worked closely with a committee of communications representatives from partner organizations to execute on events and press releases, including two endorsement highlights per week
Wrote and pitched op-eds and letters to the editor from a variety of partners and storytellers to uplift the diverse voices behind the campaign
Executed major events, including a canvass kickoff and rally with Chrissy Teigen that was covered by CNN, People Magazine, and a Spanish-language townhall moderated by a key local influencer that garnered more than 235,000 views
On Nov. 25, 2024, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs officially certified the election results, enshrining abortion rights in Arizona’s state constitution. After celebrating this win, we were proud to transition all campaign assets to partners on the ground, leaving a strong foundation in place to continue the fight for reproductive freedom going forward.
